At Lampenwelt, we strive to create a business environment that fosters a holistic view of what can ensure us to remain the leading European specialist for lighting and smart home innovations. Sustainability is an integral part of our endeavors to reach this goal and we are continuing our journey to be an economically viable, environmentally friendly and socially responsible company.

How do we do to bring this to life? We have already implemented or started numerous projects, e.g. a photovoltaic system to produce energy for Lampenwelt’s operations in Schlitz, packaging systems to make packaging and logistics more sustainable, decided to completely convert our fleet to electric vehicles or introduced our own sustainable private brand Envostar. In addition, we have now agreed on our sustainability strategy and are implementing structures to ensure that we keep our promise.

To show our commitment, the Luqom Group, our parent company, has signed the UN Global Compact.

The UN Global Compact is the world's largest initiative for corporate responsibility towards people and the environment. Together with more than 16,000 other companies, the Luqom Group and it’s Group companies try to initiate change processes for a more sustainable and inclusive economy. We are proud to be part of a group that actively contributes to a better society and we believe it’s the collective responsibility of the business community to lead the way for future generations to thrive.

Our 3 P's for more sustainability

Sustainability is more than a green environment and contains an overall sustainable behavior. We reflect this in our guiding commitments – our three P´s (Planet, Product, Partners) – to be implemented by 2025:

PLANET

We are committed to reducing the risks of climate change by becoming CO2 neutral. There is only one planet and we must protect it. By 2025 our own Carbon Footprint (scope 1 & scope 2) will be net zero and we will incorporate the principles of sustainable development in order to reduce the risks. We also aim to reduce the proportion of plastic packaging per item sold by 10 percent each year, starting from 2020 as the base year.

PRODUCT

We are committed to increasing the development and sales of sustainably produced products that comply with RRR (Recycle, Repair, Reuse) principles. Our goal is for 99% of all Luqom products to be repaired, reused or recycled (1% waste) to promote the circular economy. In addition, the share of sustainable private label products and the share of private label products will be increased year by year.

PARTNER

We are only as good as our partners. This includes all stakeholders from suppliers to employees to end customers. With regard to our suppliers, we are committed to screening 100% of our private label suppliers on human rights, labor conditions and environmental sustainability and require them to sign our Supplier Code of Conduct. We have a zero-accident policy and do not accept data breaches or GDPR penalties.

What we have already implemented

We believe that ethical and sustainable behavior, fostered by a culture of integrity, respect and responsibility, is the foundation of our success. Our Code of Conduct is a promise to our colleagues, our clientele and our business contacts that we will always act in a supportive, ethical and compliant manner and honor our commitments to our stakeholders. In addition, we have established a robust in-house compliance management function to prevent, detect and respond appropriately to violations of our standards. The same applies to our suppliers, which is why we have introduced the Supplier Code of Conduct.

Envostar

Sustainability meets design

The motto of our own brand is: In harmony with our future.
Combining sustainability and design was our goal when we launched Envostar, and that's exactly what we've achieved. From materials to production and transportation - we consider every aspect. In the meantime, we have launched about 180 Envostar products that are not only sustainable and high quality, but also aesthetically pleasing and affordable. Because our passion is to make ECO attractive for every home and affordable for every budget. 

Packaging Machine

With our packaging machine, we not only wanted to increase efficiency and the degree of automation, but also significantly reduce the consumption of packaging material at the same time, thus taking a further step towards sustainability. As a result, we reduce cardboard consumption through customized packaging cuts. In addition, the form-fit packaging means that there is no longer any need for filling material such as film. In addition, a changeover from plastic adhesive tape to paper adhesive tape took place. As a result, we were able to achieve zero percent film content in packages shipped from the packaging machine.

Solar Panel

In operation since May 2022: our photovoltaic system. Thanks to this system, we can cover around 50 percent of our electricity consumption at our logistics center in Schlitz with self-generated and emission-free solar power. The remaining 50 percent is covered by green electricity. This enables us to realize annual CO2 savings of 281 tons.

  • Share of NP products (not padding) increased to 66.5 percent, thus significant savings in packaging waste realized, steady increase in the share of these products

PARTNER

  • Established compliance management system (CMS) 
  • Developed and rolled-out our Supplier Code of Conduct by mid of 2022 and already received the commitment of more than >90% (as of August 2022) of our trustworthy suppliers to follow the procedures of SCoC by their signatures 
  • Developed and published Code of Conduct as well as whistleblowing hotline

Diversity

We are committed to promoting gender equality as a company and ensure that there is no difference in pay based on gender or other demographic or personal characteristics for equivalent/comparable activities. We ensure this, for example, through the objectification of (salary) decisions in an HR Board or through the flexibility we offer our employees to better reconcile work and family life.

We have set ourselves specific targets for the proportion of female managers in the first three management levels (management, director, head of/team lead), which we aim to achieve by the end of 2026. As of Dec. 31, 2022, we have a ratio of 52% men and 48% women in the total workforce and 33% of female executives in the aforementioned management levels. Our goal is to increase our proportion of female executives to >40% overall by 2026.

At the individual levels, our targets by 2026 are as follows: Executive Board: 33% (0% as of Dec. 31, 2022), Management Level 1 (Director): 30% (13% as of Dec. 31, 2022), Management Level 2 (Head of/Teamlead): 45% (37% as of reporting date 12/31/2022).
